Jogging with Babies
Jogging with Babies
For every new parent who is into jogging, no other scenario represents a more idyllic and joyful lifestyle than being able to go jogging with their young babies. The time a parent can spend with their baby while also enjoying a good run can be the best time that one can have throughout the week. However, it requires little planning and safety has to be a paramount consideration in this scenario.
As logic would tell you, there are considerations that parents have to be mindful of when participating in jogging with babies. In this post, we will talk about the most important reminders and considerations in order to ensure that your baby remains safe through every mile ran and every minute spent on the road.
•The first rule of jogging with babies is to make sure that the baby is old enough to go out on a run. There is no hard and fast rule for determining what is the appropriate age for taking a baby out on the road but if you are looking for recommendations, 6 months and above would be a good reference. When the baby is able to take the small bumps on the road, that should give you a hint that jogging with babies is now possible and safe.
•Provide additional protection for your baby whenever necessary. Use strollers that have a car seat adapter. Car seats for babies are designed to absorb bumps and vibrations minimizing the bounce that a baby will experience during the run. The shape of a car seat also ensures that the baby’s head and neck are kept in a stable position while you are jogging.
•Make sure to pack all of your baby’s needs accordingly. Just as you pack all that you need when going out for a jog, your baby will also have his or her fair share of needs while you are on the road. To do this effectively, you will need a jogging stroller that has a basket or compartment where you can pack all the necessary things for your baby. Diapers, toys, wipes, water, milk and even snacks are some of the most important things you need to keep in mind when packing for your child before going out on a run.
•The weather has to be a primary consideration when jogging with babies. If it is warm outside, dress your baby in clothing that provides enough ventilation, but also be mindful of the sun’s rays. Conversely, if it is chilly outside, dress your baby in warm clothing fit for the conditions.
•In terms of safety, stay away from highways where you run the risk of encountering fast-moving vehicles. Don’t run hands-free to ensure that you always have full control of the stroller. Be mindful of small things like locking the front wheels of the stroller so it does not roll away when you least expect it.
Jogging with babies is a very fulfilling experience for any parent and can be an equally great time for the child if you take all the necessary precautions to make it enjoyable and fun. Start by taking note of safety precautions as well as the little things that your baby may need along the way so you have everything covered to transform the run into a pleasant and relaxing experience.
