If it’s raining, you are less likely to see a jogger outside while runners will continue to train in insane conditions including snow. Where joggers measure their routines in minutes, runners will meticulously count weekly distance, lap splits, finishing times, personal bests, and many other indicators.

Still, do not think for a minute that jogging is the little brother of running. If it were, then you would not be seeing runners passionately talk to non-joggers about the true value of jogging and running. The truth is that jogging serves as a suitable preparatory stage to running. Likewise, there are many serious runners today who started out as joggers. Eventually, they feel in love with the sport and decided to make the commitment to jump into running as a personal discipline.

So the next time you see a runner friend, make sure you give due credit to his or her efforts by distinguishing between running versus jogging. In the same way, do not be easily put down if you are only jogging today. You will find that running is an easy transition from jogging if you learn to love the sport. Running has many things to offer in the way of health and fitness but learn to ease your way into running so you do not force the issue, get an injury, and suffer a few setbacks.
